News 6/08/22 (Cain, K Green, Rogers, S Williams, Bowen, Evie Hughes, E Roberts, CONCACAF)

Give Me Sport previews the new season for the Women’s Super League and Championship. Although the focus is primarily on players who featured in the Euros, Kayleigh Green (Brighton & Hove Albion) and Hannah Cain (Leicester City) are named as players to watch out for.

Morgan Rogers and Scarlett Williams have both moved from Tottenham Hotspur to Watford. Morgan, who previously played for Watford on a dual registration, has now signed a permanent deal with the Hertfordshire club. U19 international Scarlett has signed on a dual registration.

Cardiff City have signed four new players who have represented Wales. Midfielder Rhianne Oakley, who has signed from Swansea City, and goalkeeper Emily Roberts from Port Talbot Town have both played at U19 level. Defender Megan Bowen, who has joined from Barry Town United, is an U17 international. Full back Evie Hughes was a member of the FAW Academy and has also played for Wales’ U16s.

Laura McAllister of Wales Online tells us about her experience of watching England (and not Wales) in the European Championships and talks about her hopes for the future – though the battle is not won yet.

Wales U15s faced Puerto Rico in the Concacaf Girls’ U15 Championships. Puerto Rico took the lead, but Wales equalised late on before winning 3-1 in a penalty shootout. Matches in this tournament can be watched on YouTube channel WeMaxit Football.
