Win two tickets to watch Wales’ World Cup qualifier against Slovenia at the Cardiff City stadium.
Swansea are out of the Champions League, but they will play in the third-place play-off before they head home to start their league season. PAOK started well and Shaunna Jenkins made a good block to deny an early shot on goal. Unfortunately, she and Alicia Powe were caught out when exchanging passes, which led to PAOK’s opener.
Swansea kept trying, with Stacey John-Davis setting up a chance for defender Ellie Lake, whose shot was just wide, while Powe was off-target with a header. Gwennan Horgan dodged a couple of challenges before floating a ball to John-Davis, but the goalkeeper got there first. PAOK stayed strong defensively, and got the second goal they probably deserved on 70 minutes.
The result could have been a lot worse without the heroics of goalkeeper Claire Skinner, who was Swansea’s best player, and made a series of absolutely outstanding saves to keep Swansea in the game. So it’s back to the Adran Premier for Swansea, who are aiming to win for the fourth consecutive season.
