National League South
Plymouth Argyle 0-2 Oxford United
Lily Stevens played 90 minutes for Oxford United,
helping them to keep a clean sheet as they won 2-0 at Plymouth Argyle. Oxford
are yet to concede a goal in the National League South after winning their
first match by the same scoreline
Portsmouth 4-1 Milton Keynes Dons
Emma Jones scored twice for Portsmouth and came close
to a third as they thrashed Milton Keynes Dons. Emma scored the opening goal at
the near post following a cross after 22 minutes – and by half-time, Portsmouth were 3-0 ahead.
If the home side had any thoughts that they’d already won,
they were given a small wake-up call when Milton Keynes pulled a goal back
early in the second half, but Portsmouth responded with Emma’s second and their
fourth. Milton Keynes didn’t give up after that – they continued to attack and
their goalkeeper prevented Emma from getting a hat-trick, but Portsmouth
defended solidly and the score remained at 4-1.
Reading 3-2 Aston Villa
Lily Woodham and Rachel Rowe were both heavily
involved for Reading in a match that could have gone either way. It was Rachel
who had Reading’s first attempt on goal, but it was easily dealt with on this
occasion. Lily then won a free kick after some good work in the first half and
although Rachel’s effort was cleared, it certainly signalled Reading’s intent.
In the second half, Rachel had another attempt on goal from
a free kick. Lily came close to a goal on the hour mark, but although her
effort struck the post with the score at 1-1, she did score five minutes later.
After a powerful overlapping run, she received a floated pass from Rachel, wrongfooted
her marker, and her powerful shot went in via a deflection. Lily’s cross
shortly afterwards caused problems in the box and eventually led to the
awarding of a penalty, which was scored, putting Reading 3-1 ahead.
Natasha Harding played 77 minutes for Aston Villa.
Tottenham 0-2 Chelsea
Angharad James was part of Tottenham’s central midfield in a match in which Tottenham looked promising but were no match for
last season’s Champions.
