Wales are up one place to 30th in the new FIFA rankings following some excellent performances in World Cup qualifying.
The Wales U19 and U17 squads have been confirmed for the upcoming European Championships campaigns. The U19 squad includes Bethan McGowan (Birmingham City) and Phoebie Poole (Cardiff City), both of whom were recently called up by the senior squad for a development camp. Wales centurion Loren Dykes, who retired in 2021, manages the U17s.
Bethan Davies came to Sheffield United’s rescue in
the closing minutes of their 1-1 friendly draw at Manchester City, pushing a late
attempt at goal onto the bar. Bethan entered the field of play on 61 minutes,
alongside Maria Francis-Jones, who played for Sheffield United despite
having a dual registration with their opponents. You don’t see that kind of
thing in men’s football (actually, I remember it happening once: Arsenal
allowed Sanchez Watt, whose mother is Welsh, to play for Leeds United
against them in an FA Cup game, but it’s not the norm). Georgia Walters
joined Bethan and Maria on the field six minutes later as Sheffield United pushed for
– and got - a late equaliser.
Jess Fishlock has been named in the National Women’s Soccer League’s Best XI of the Month for July. Jess played in all four of OL Reign’s July matches, scoring two goals and getting one assist. Further stats are available in the article.
Poppy Soper tells new club Charlton Athletic about her experiences with Wales, Plymouth Argyle and Chelsea, and looks forward to her future as a professional footballer at a very exciting time for women’s football.
