FA Women’s Championship
Oxford United 1-1 Watford
Oxford haven’t lost at home for nearly three years and Watford were within minutes of ending that run. After a very long period of stoppage time, Oxford found the equaliser they needed – though Watford themselves are unbeaten in three. Helen Ward came closest to giving Watford a second goal after replacing Annie Rossiter in the 81st minute. Lily Stevens played 90 minutes for Oxford.
FA Women’s National League South
Portsmouth 5-0 Billericay
Emma Jones has been excellent for Portsmouth this season and this was hardly her worst game of the season, with the forward scoring three of Portsmouth’s goals. Emma scored her – and Portsmouth’s - first from close range after 18 minutes, with her second coming not long afterwards. She completed her treble by scoring the winner in the 69th minute. Emma left the field five minutes from the end, hopefully to a standing ovation.

Barry Town 0-3 Cardiff City Women
If Cardiff City Women play a match in which Phoebie Poole
doesn’t score, I’m going to assume she wasn’t on the pitch. She really has
made an incredible start to the season.
Hannah Power also started and came very close to the
opening goal, but her shot possibly had a bit too much of Hannah’s surname in
it and went over the bar. Ffion Price made a great pass for Phoebie to open the scoring on 18
minutes. Danielle Broadhurst then put a shot over the bar – her moment
was yet to come.
Ffion seemed to be enjoying the role of provider as she also
set up Zoe Atkins, who headed the ball into the goal for Cardiff’s
second of the night – and her first of the season. Zoe then created a chance
for Danielle Broadhurst, but she wasn’t quite ready to get on the scoresheet
yet.
In the second half, substitute Danielle Green, replacing Rhianne Oakley, shot over before setting up Lily Billingham and Phoebie, but their efforts were blocked. The other Danielle finally stuck one into the top corner on 72 minutes. I think most people would say the goal was worth the wait.
Megan Bowen made her first start for Cardiff Women with Ceryn Chamberlain, Siobhan Walsh and Hollie Smith also in the starting line-up. Evie Hughes and Eliza Collie made substitute appearance. Emily Roberts was an unused substitute.
Swansea City 4-0 Pontypridd United
After losing for the first time this season in their match
against Cardiff City Women, Swansea bounced back in emphatic style. Jessica
Williams headed in her first goal of the season after being set up by Ellie
Lake. Katy Hosford was next to get on the scoresheet with a
long-range shot from 25 yards, before Shaunna Jenkins’ excellent through
ball provided the assist for Monet Legall’s powerfully-struck goal.
Shaunna then nearly got on the scoresheet herself before the whistle blew for
half-time.
Swansea showed no signs of slowing down in the second half
and it was a brilliant strike from 30 yards out by Ellie Lake that finished
the job.
