Although I have been a passionate support of the Wales Men for most of my life, I am not so much fashionably late as shamelessly late in giving my support to Wales Women. Mistakes are likely (not least as official websites are often out of date), but my intentions are good.
You can watch highlights of Women’s Championship matches on Sky Sports and FA Player.
Sunday 21 August
FA
Women’s Championship
Birmingham City v Lewes (4.30pm)
Josie Longhurst will hope to make her debut for new
club Lewes after signing from Brighton & Hove Albion. She joins Welsh
contingent Nicola Cousins, Rhian Cleverly and Emily Jones.
Birmingham City also have a new Welsh player: Bethan McGowan, who signed
from Arsenal, though she might be one for the future.
Blackburn Rovers v Sheffield United (2pm)
Chloe
Williams recently signed for Blackburn Rovers on loan from
Manchester United and will be hoping to make her debut. She joins Ellie Leek
and Lauren Thomas at Blackburn. Maria Francis-Jones could make
her Sheffield United debut after signing on a dual registration agreement with
Manchester United. Goalkeeper Bethan Davies, another new signing, could
be on the bench. This will be Blackburn’s first match at Ewood Park for three
years.
Coventry United v Bristol City (2.30pm)
Olivia
Clark only left Coventry United this summer, but now she
returns with new club Bristol City as their second-choice goalkeeper. But
Coventry haven’t been entirely deserted by Wales – they still have Charlie
Estcourt, while Evie Gane could make her debut after recently
transferring from Portsmouth. Bristol City’s Ffion Morgan has been
terrifying various defences in-pre-season and Coventry United might be hoping
she doesn’t start. Chloe Bull and Ella Powell are also on Bristol
City’s books.
London
City Lionesses v Crystal Palace (12.30pm)
Anna
Filbey and Elise Hughes both left Charlton Athletic
for Crystal Palace this summer. Elise is one of a group of players who could
start up front.
